lcd furniture and mount

Any good reason why I shouldn't mount my LCD TV above my fireplace?

We use the fireplace about half the year but we're in the room year-round. It doesn't get hot up there but there is smoke from time to time (occasional user error!!). There's a little mantle between the firebox and where I want to mount the tv. I've seen some designer shows where the tv is mounted above the fireplace. I like the idea and the look. I don't like the space the tv takes up; it's on a dresser now and it's ackward as far as the flow of the room goes. It's in the basement (our family room) and the space is odd so a wall mount would be great. Above the fireplace, I think, will keep the room family friendly wth more room for play and I think then, I could arrange the furniture so the focal point will be the fireplace, and not the tv, when the tv is off. What do you think?
